Cua Ong
temple is located in the Cua Ong quarter of Cam Pha, 50km from the
centre of Halong city. It offers a magnificent view of Bai Tu Long
bay.
The temple was built at the beginning of
the 19th century. It includes a lower temple, a middle temple and an
upper temple. In the lower temple, people observe the
mother-worship cult, while the upper temple is dedicate to the cult
of Tran Quoc Tang.
The main
temple was formerly used to worship Hoang Cau, a regional hero, but
it was later changed to honour his 3rd son, Tran Quoc Tuan, who was
very brave in defending the border in the Cua Suot area.
This unique temple is dedicated to the memory of the whole family
of Tran Quoc Tuan. It contains 34 statues and statuettes,
meticulously carved with striking engravings.
