Lang Viet (Vietnamese Village) is not a
communal house of North Vietnam. It is in fact a shop with a
difference, in one of the most crowded streets in HCMC.
Strolling around the showroom, you can see a collection of
handicraftsa nd traditional goods from three regions of Vietnam.
Each product displayed yields its own cultural values. Those
made from the roots and base of coffee trees appear so unusual
and bizarre, that anyone shopping here usually decides they just
have to take one home. The coffee wood products are a craftmen's
work of art. To make a set of tables and chairs, an ashtray or a
vase (all on sale here) a very natural form of the coffee tree's
root or base is chosen and treated carefully with chemicals.
The
time spent treating the wood and the color of each item
following delicate polishing makes these products so unique.
Apart from these specialties, paintings on bamboo screens are
other traditional products available at Vietnamese Village. The
beauty and quality of these bamboo artworks can only be truly
appreciated when you come to the Village and see for yourself.
Prices range from VND 75,000 to 175,000, depending on size.
Various items made from delicate hand-made brocade are also sold
here, at very reasonable prices.
